Picadilly Bucket Hat and Slim Phone Cross Body Bag

I am so excited about the new Picadilly collection designed by Amanda Castor of Material Girl Quilts for Riley Blake Designs.

Amanda’s collections are always so fun to work with because her designs are both lovely to look at and well thought out, which makes them easy to incorporate into quilting and sewing projects.

Take a look at these gorgeous colors and designs! I’m obsessed with the teeny Ohio Star print, and those adorable circle dots, glowers, fireworks…they’re all favorites!

I originally had another project in mind, but when we ended up taking a last minute trip to Newport Beach, I decided to make something I could take with me and use on the trip. I whipped up two plaid bucket hats and an adorable Slim Phone Cross Body Bag. And they were all perfect for this trip!

The Slim Phone Cross Body Bag comes from a pattern designed by Minki Kim and you can find it at SEWING ILLUSTRATION. I made one of these last year and new I wanted to find time to make another.

This red bandana print was just screaming to me that it wanted to become a cross body bag, and so it did!

This little bag just fits your phone in the slim sleeve, but as a bonus, there is a little zipper pocket in the front, which I used to hold my driver’s license, credit card, and a little cash. We spent a morning at Balboa Island, and I knew we would be walking around a lot and I wouldn’t want to be lugging around my big purse. This little Slim Phone Cross Body Bag was the perfect choice.

I love the contrasting blue zipper! I happened to have a cute llama zipper charm, so I clipped it on the zipper pull and I think it adds the perfect touch of whimsy. I have a little bit of fabric left, and I’m seriously considering making one more bag! I ordered the cross body bag strap on Amazon. The nice thing about it is that it easily clips on and off, so any time I want to switch out my bag, I just need to remove the strap and add it to whatever bag I’m in the mood for that day. Nice!

The bucket hats were self drafted by me. I couldn’t find a pattern I loved, so I watched a few tutorials for self drafting, and using the measurements from a bucket hat I already own, I created these two hats.

The hats are reversible, although I do prefer the plaid for the outside. I love being able to get a peek at the fun prints on the inside, but I see them more as an accent than a main focal point.

Here is a look at the inside of both hats. I love the tiny flower print, and the white bandana print and stripes are also my favs. I used the same stripe print as the lining of the Slim Phone Cross Body Bag.

Here you can see a peek of the white bandana print on the inside of the hat, and you can also get a glimpse of the stripe lining of the Slim Phone Cross Body Bag. So cute!

Picadilly, by Amanda Castor of Material Girl Quilts for Riley Blake Designs is coming soon! I would most definitely preorder a bundle asap to guarantee you get your hands on this fun fabric line.
