Raw Edge Appliqué Grandmother’s Groovy Garden Baby Quilt

Hello friends! Today’s the day I can finally share this adorable quilt I have been working on with you. This little beauty is a Raw Edge Appliqué version of the Grandmother’s Groovy Garden Quilt. I’m in love!

The fabrics come from the Blue Jean collection designed by Christopher Thompson for Riley Blake Designs. In addition, I added some Chambray fabrics, also from Riley Blake Designs.

The raw edge appliqué is a fun alternative to the satin stitch edging I did on my original quilt. When it is washed, it will fray a little bit, creating a worn texture and feel to the quilt.

Here is a closer look — aren’t these flowers so sweet? The flowers are cut from my Groovy Flower Template, which includes three sizes. I used the large size for this quilt.

The flowers are layered and stitched done one at a time. Basically, this is a quilt-as-you-go technique, but instead of straight lines, you are quilting flowers “as-you-go.”

I ran low on fabric, so I ended up using two of the Chambray fabrics for the binding and I love the scrappy feeling it lends to the quilt!

Watch the video tutorial to see just how easy and fun it is to put this little quilt together, and take a moment to subscribe if you’d like to support my channel.

Here is a closeup look at the quilt after it has been washed and dried. The frayed edges are so soft and charming. I think they would make a sweet, soft, tactile experience for little ones. This is the perfect snuggle quilt, or throw it on the floor for tummy time!
