Star Attraction Quilt Pattern
My first official quilt pattern is written and ready to share! Meet “Star Attraction.” Star attraction is a simple two-block quilt design with a twist, creating a fun visual impact.
I’m absolutely thrilled to be able to time the release of this pattern with the release of the new Tie Die Americana collection from Riley Blake Designs. I think the fabric and pattern design work PERFECTLY together, don’t you?
This quilt pattern calls for just 4 different fabrics. In this version, I used fabrics from the Riley Blake Tie Dye collection in Americana, Cherry, Blue, and White. I absolutely love the Americana print with its gorgeous swirls and color variations!
Here is a closer look at the fabrics. You can see how fun the Americana Tie Dye really is. LOVE it! It’s not as easy to see through a camera lens the variations in the other colors, but they are there.
They have a tonal, mottled look to them that adds just a hint of depth to the color.
I designed this to be a 60” x 60” throw or picnic size quilt, however, you can easily make it larger by adding more vertical and/or horizontal rows.
The distribution of color in this quilt pattern creates somewhat of an optical illusion. You eye travels back and forth between stars, checkerboards, and arrows.
I quilted this on my domestic machine using a simple allover meandering design. I debated far too long on what thread color I would use. I finally settled on basic white thread, and I think it turned out great, although I do think that red, blue, and even gray threads would look just as nice.
For the binding, I used the same Americana Tie Dye fabric that I used in the stars. I love how it pulls it all together.
For the quilt back, I used this fun Bandana print by Lori Holt. It is a wide back, which made it super easy to use, and the color and print were perfect for this quilt.
Star Attraction makes a beautiful summertime 4th of July quilt, but I wanted to show you how versatile this design is with a few more color palettes. Really, the options are endless, but here are just a few:
These are just some of the endless color options you can dream up. I am excited to share more Star Attraction quilts in the future and I can’t wait to see your versions of this quilt!
