Faux Succulent Seashell Planter
With another child heading off to college in the fall, I have apartment decor on my mind. Years ago I used some of the welk shells I picked up on the beach to create lovely succulent planters. The problem? I can’t keep succulents alive. So I revisited the idea with a much easier solution…
Faux succulents! Not only do they look realistic, but they will stay this plump and green forever — no watering needed!
In addition to the seashells, I had this tiny little bowl I made while taking a pottery class with my daughter. Any large shell or small dish would work great for this project.
Here is what you need:
a large seashell or small bowl
First step is to fill the seashell or bowl with the rock. You can use some glue around the edges if you really want to hold the rock into place. I didn’t want to put glue on my shell, and it really didn’t need it, so I didn’t add any glue or adhesive.
Next start adding the succulents.
It will look best if you vary the size, color or texture of the succulents. Here is one arrangement I came up with.
Here is another with just two plants.
And here is a third option.
I created a second shell, and this is so quick and easy, I could seriously do this all day.
And here is a look at my little bowl. You can make one of these in less than 2 minutes. Easy! The best part is that you can send on of these pretties off to college with your child and you know it will brighten up their dorm or apartment, and they don’t have to remember to water it. Ever. Perfect!
